… is a good thing. I recently listened to an interview with Daniel Levitin, my main take-away of which was that allowing your mind wander is restorative of your concentration. That was a pretty stressful day, and I didn’t feel up to the amount of reading I had set for myself that night, so I set a ten-minute timer and just lay on the floor for a while, allowing my mind to wander. It was astonishingly successful, and felt like a lot longer than 10 minutes. I find that, unlike trying to fall asleep, I can allow my mind to wander on-command.

Now I’m thinking about building it into my daily routine, and trying to remember to take brain-rest breaks whenever I feel harried.
